ASCENDING Builds Custom Solution on AWS for an Enterprise Revenue Recognition Platform

The world's largest domain registrar decided to build a custom solution to separate Revenue Recognition Platform and eCommerce functions. They sought to develop a platform on AWS using serverless architecture, which ingests all the sales transactions from various acquired eComm System(s) and computes the appropriate revenue allocations within a defined arrangement. The custom solution is expected to assist our client with a well-architected solution in AWS and comply with SOX requirements. The goal is to build a unified model for finance and accounting to onboard new eCommerce systems and support the company's future organic or inorganic growth. It also mitigates the risk of misstatements.

The size of data was growing and became hard to manage, so they had to get more servers onsite. This caused a lot of inconvenience for The Mammoth Site, gave them extra unnecessary work and was very costly and time consuming. They did not have a delegated in-house IT employee to manage the server, so when issues arose, they had to find a third party to step in. This was also cost and led to prolonged response time. The Mammoth Site deals with scholars and researchers all over the world, and for security reasons, they need to maintain a VPN for them to access the data stored on-premise. This is very inconvenient for all parties, and as a result, they wanted to have a virtual place to dump everything.

The CAHSS decided to build a data system that can collect laboratory and abattoir data from different provinces such as Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. The new system needs to be cost-effective, secure, and scalable to intake data from various data sources, transform it into a consumable format then visualize the dataset.

The No Kid Hungry campaign, established in 1984, has two different data systems that are managed by separate teams. This has resulted in difficulties with data integration and aggregation for downstream analysts and business users. One challenge is to synchronize records from Salesforce into the AWS Data Lake, as the records are not fully compatible due to the nature of the different systems. The other challenge is to unify the data schema in the ETL process from multiple data sources. The two systems have different schemas, and the ETL process must be compatible with both, while also meeting the business requirements for performance and accuracy.
